Shakedown rides (RP)

In previous years, I've been sure to get in a couple "shakedown runs" before heading out on Mototour. What's a shakedown run? Good question. I'll quote from Moto2our:

1. What's a shake-down run?

It's a short trip to make sure everything is ok before you take off on a long trip. For example, you want to make sure you like the new footpegs you installed (which I don't), that the wiring for your GPS and sat radio aren't cutting in and out (which they are), that your suspension is set up like you like it (which it isn't). Much better to sort this stuff out on a 3 day trip than have it bite you on day 3 of a 10 day trip. That's what I'm doing this weekend.

(For previous Mototours, please reference Mototour and Moto2our)

This year, I'm not worried about doing any intermediate trips. I have some new stuff on my bike since last year's big ride, but nothing that's been added recently (except the driving lights, and they're working fine. The big items (new suspension, footpegs) have been on the bike since last year, and have seen plenty of miles. I know they're good. The final drive is new, but if it's not good, it's not the kind of thing that will turn up any time soon. The bike is running as well as it ever has.

The only thing I might mess with before the trip is the settings on the fuel chip. But I'll know if I have that right by going around the block. No trip to the Adirondacks necessary to figure that one out. So I'm officially declaring the bike roadworthy. Which give me much more time for things like route planning.
