Milestone (RP)

So on my way to work yesterday, I looked down and happened to catch my odometer at 40,000. I knew it was coming, but hadn't been waiting for it. I don't put a lot of energy into waiting for nice round numbers on the odometer, but it's kind of impossible not to reflect when you hit one. Some observations and thoughts I had over the day...

• In 3 years, I've put 26k miles on this bike. 2007 was a light year, and '06 and '08 both saw over 10k miles each.
• I've put about 1100 on this year, which isn't bad considering I've only had 7 weeks worth of riding time.
• July should be a 4k mile month.
• This bike and I have seen 22 states and 2 countries.
• The longest single trip I've done on it was 2803 miles. This year's is slated for 3000.
• The mechanical failures I've had on this bike are blown fork seal, bad turn signal switch, bad throttle cable distributor box, and a final drive bearing failure. The fuel issues I had were self inflicted, and turned out to be a crossed wire. The final drive is the only thing that could be considered "serious" or unreasonable for a bike this age.

A fun game to play is the "if I could have any motorcycle..." game. I was playing with a co-worker the other day, and honestly couldn't come up with another bike I'd rather have. The best I could do was "a newer version of this same bike".
